Just as the name may suggest, “Healthy Start” is a program for those who are pregnant and/or are new parents. The program is a wonderful guide to all those who want to provide the healthiest start for their infants up to the age of one year.
The Healthy Start program is available across 8 neighbourhoods in Winnipeg. The facilitators and the materials focus on engaging participants to enable friendships, a greater acceptance towards each other, and knowledge of this new phase of life; more information is swapped and shared to enrich the group and all participants.
You can visit the program centre closest to your neighbourhood. You will find that the program supports participants with additional help, such as an outreach worker, or a dietitian to answer queries related to food for pregnant and nursing mothers. There is a public health nurse also available at the group sessions.
This is a real program for new mothers, parents, and those who are pregnant so they can reach out and be part of a closely knit community. It doesn’t matter what challenge you face. You will find the right resources and encouragement you need.
Pregnant women and teens are welcomed to the group meetings every two weeks across 8 neighbourhoods in Winnipeg. Contact them to know the schedule of the sessions in your neighbourhood. The sessions will enrich your knowledge regarding pregnancy, diet, breastfeeding, drugs, alcohol, and stress-related topics. If you don’t live within walking distance, the program can help you get bus tickets to attend.
For the new mums
These sessions are every two weeks and families are welcome to attend and learn more about breastfeeding support, baby’s growth and development, easy cooking tips and recipes, and have access to other helpful resources.
